Curvy Girl Travels: Paris
Thinking about traveling to the city of light and love? Here are some of my favorites things when visiting this magical place.
Best places to stay:
Paris is separated into neighborhoods called Arrondissements. There are 20 arrondissements in Paris. They spiral from the city center in numerical order. So the lower the number the closer to the city center. If you are concerned with being able to reach all of the touristy things then you may want to consider staying closer to the city center. Traffic in Paris can be a bit overwhelming so expect these areas to always be filled with traffic, noisy, and crowded.
3rd and 4th arrondissements (Le Marais) : Le Marais is one of my favorite areas in Paris, designer boutiques and vintage shops line the streets of Marais. This area is perfect to walk around and discover of the corner bakeries and restaurants. Very hip and trendy area. Downside to this neighborhood is that it can be a little pricey. I would check out any Airbnb’s in the area before checking in to a hotel.
6th Arrondissements (St. Germain): Captures the true essence of the left bank. Picturesque Parisian streets, hotels, and restaurants. This is where you go to experience the left bank and all its glory.
12th Arrondissement (Bastille): I stayed in Bastille during my last trip to Paris and I loved it! It was very easy to get to the city center. Plenty of metro stops available. I loved walking through the 12th arrondissement, it never felt unsafe and there were plenty of cafes and bakeries around. We stayed at a fabulous airbnb flat, which had a view of the Eiffel Tower. It was amazing to wake up every morning with that view. I felt like I was living in a fairly tale. Here is the link to the Airbnb that we stayed at, I can not recommend it more! It was superb!
Favorite Places to Eat:
I hope you bring your appetite when coming to Paris since there’s plenty to eat, and trust me you will want to!
Le Relais de l’Entrecote: Yummy steak and frites Parisian style! This restaurant is known for their famous green sauce. Once you walk in, you are seated and the waitress will ask you how you would like your steak cooked, and BOOM. In few minutes your plate will be filled with yummy steak a frites smothered in this delicious green sauce. I tried to pin down exactly what was in their famous sauce but I couldn't, oh well more reasons to go to Paris!
Laduree: There are a few locations around the city. We went to the St. Germain location on Rue Bonaparte. The food was amazing! If you go here please try the violet tea, you will thank me later. We had one of the lunch specials, which included a starter, main, and dessert. Oh and a glass of champagne :) . I would definitely suggest making a reservation for this restaurant as it gets very crowded and can have longer wait times.
L'as du Fallafel: Ok so everyone was talking about this famous fallafel place in Paris. I was a little skeptical because I figured that it was another touristy trap. Late one night on our hunger quest, we decided to see what this place was all about. The restaurant is kinda of hidden in the Le Marais neighborhood (4th arrondissement) but once you get there you will know. It's lit up in the midde of the block, almost like a party! When we arrived at almost 9 pm, this place was still in full swing. The staff here has their operations down to a science so you are seated as quickly as possible. I ordered the fallafel platter which had fallafel, hummus, salad, and potatoes. Hands down the best fallafel that I have ever had. The portion was huge! I had to take the rest to go, which was fine with me, I had the leftovers for breakfast! If you want great food at a reasonable price, this is the place! L'as du Fallafel is Lenny Kravitz and Curvaceous Lush approved.
Angelina’s: A friend of mine told me that I couldn’t leave Paris without getting some hot chocolate from Angelina’s. I didn’t know what to expect when I walked in this quaint little restaurant, but oh was I about to find out. We went in for just a quick bite, we ordered a few pastries and hot chocolate. When the waitress brought over the hot chocolate we were amazed. It was more like a cup of Willy Wonka’s chocolate river. It was the richest most delectable hot chocolate that I have ever had in my life! Omg I can almost taste it! Check out that pour below!
Pierre Herme: There are several debates of the best macaroons in town, most of the locals suggest Pierre Herme over Laduree, and I totally agree. Pierre Herme has the macaron game down. Some of my favorites were the rose and passion fruit. There are many locations around the city, I went to the location in Le Marais. They have many other sweets and chocolates in shop. It is great to bring back a little piece of Paris with you.
Best view of the Eiffel Tower:
If you want the best view of the Eiffel Tower, head over to Trocadero. We went here multiple times during our trip and it honestly is the best place to take photos. Also, it’s just magical at night to see the Eiffel Tower light up from this view.
Other Paris Tips:
- Speak the language! You don’t have to be perfect, but at least try. I tried to interact with every person in French as much as I could, and it was helpful!
- If you plan to visit the Louvre, get your tickets in advance so you don’t have to wait in the queue. You will thank me later. The Louvre is a must see during your vacation, but don’t plan to see it all at once. The Louvre is massive. I would pick some key areas that you want to see or plan to go multiple days.
- Uber is very prevalent in Paris, we often took Uber when heading to events and activities. It was affordable, and the Uber drivers were very professional. Often times we were greeted with sweets and bottles of water. It was a nice touch!
- Paris is a very walkable city, so also get out and just walk. You'd be surprised at what you will discover!
- Let yourself be taken over by this magical city! Explore and take it all it!
